Other Slow Sessions

I’m in the process of building this list of slow sessions. There is an Irish music calendar for the Northeast coast of the USA, but I have no idea how accurate it is. Please do more research before relying on the info provided.  As for other slow sessions, I have been informed of the following: 

USA

Bloomington, Illinois, USA.  Though the slow session is defunct, the website has recorded tunes.

Indianapolis, Indiana, USA. The Irish Arts Academy of Indianapolis has a number of slow tune recordings.

Portland, Main, USA.  The website has a variety of sessions and slow sessions in the Portland, Maine area, the slow session is at 1317 Main.

Ayer, Massachusetts, USA. The Groton Session at Billiards Café (39 Main Street, Suite 201, Ayer, MA 01432) on Wednesday evening at 7:00pm is no longer a slow session.  Updated:15-5-18

Dennis, Massachusetts, USA (Cape Cod). Slow session every Wednesday,  6:30pm, at O’Shea’s Olde Inne (on Rt. 28) 348 Main Street, West Dennis, MA 02670.  The regular session is on Sundays 6-8pm.

Holyoke, Massachusetts, USA. Lower Valley Irish Slow Session meets on Wednesday evening from 6:30 – 9pm pm at DeCice hall at the Marian Center, 1365 Northampton Street,  Holyoke, MA.  

Clark, New Jersey.  Lesl Harker’s monthly slow session.

Albany, New York, USA.  Every third Sunday at 2:30pm, meeting at the Capital District Irish American Association (formerly known as the Albany Hibernian Hall) 375  Ontario St., Albany, NY.

Cincinnati, Ohio, USA. The Riley School of Irish Music has a recordings of their tunes for each quarterly class.

 Australia

Melbourne, Australia. McDonnell’s Slow Session, Corkman Pub, Mondays 7:30-11pm

Canada

Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.  Slow Session at Lion’s Head Tavern & Grill.

Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada. At the Old Triangle pub every Sunday afternoon from 2 pm to 5 pm (the first hour is a slow session to share and learn new tunes). Hosted by Roy Johnstone.

Ireland

Dublin, Ireland. Waltons New School of Music slow session, in Dublin city centre, 69 South Great George’s Street, Dublin 2, Ireland. T: +353 (0)1 478 1884   E: info@newschool.ie

Galway, Ireland.   Dusty Banjos learning session held in the Western Hotel, Prospect Hill, Galway.

Tinahely, co. Wicklow, Ireland.  Monthly slow session held in the Courthouse Arts Centre, Tinahely.

Japan

Tama, Tokyo, Japan.  Tama is a municipality in western Tokyo and they have a Saturday slow session from 1-4:30pm.

    France — there is a great slow session group which meets every Saturday from 5:30-7PM (regular session afterwards) at the Quiet Man pub in the Marais, central Paris. The website has a rich library of tunes.

    Heya! Thanks for listing the holyoke slow session! I wanted to let you know our session is still going strong but that our website has changed, as well as our name. We’re now the Lower Valley Irish Slow Session, at http://www.lvirishslowsession.wordpress.com. Time is now 6:30 – 9pm but dates are the same. More info at website. -Mark
